Ski & Snowboard Instructor

A Mountain Sports School Instructor (Ski & Snowboard Instructor) will teach alpine skiing or snowboarding to children and adults of all ability levels by focusing on the fundamentals of on-mountain safety while providing a fun on-snow experience. Extensive training is provided for inexperienced to advanced candidates.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work together with a team of instructors to organize classes and students according to individual student goals and ability levels.
  • Plan and implement lessons appropriate for each ability zone with an emphasis on Safety, Fun, and Learning.
  • Teach a variety of lessons for children and adults, including instruction for beginners, intermediate and advanced class participants.
  • Display professional conduct with parents, children, and caregivers in all situations, some of which may be stressful; write daily progress cards for students and their parents.
  • Provide exceptional guest service while always maintaining safety as a priority.
  • Availability to assist with boot fitting, fence set up and tear down, cleaning, snow removal, scanning, or other tasks as early as 8 am and until at least 4 pm.
  • Recognizes that service is our product and helping our guests have a great Alyeska experience is our primary job. Ultimately embraces that our goal is to help guests find the love of skiing/riding and the mountains we share.
  • Follow all protocols for punctuality, daily and season long scheduling, uniforms and professional appearances as outlined by P&C and Snowsports School.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains personal and guest safety as a top priority.
  • Can address guests’ needs and goals cognitively, affectively, and physically.
  • Reads and complies with Alyeska Employee Handbook and Mountain Sports School procedures and policies.
  • Is responsible for staying current with company information; emails, newsletters, informational websites, bulletin boards, memos and required meetings.
  • Makes a continued effort to seek training and improve personal skiing/riding skills, teaching skills and coaching knowledge.
  • Strong personal character and commitment to Alyeska Resort’s Vision, Purpose, and Values.
  • Provides a guest experience that exceeds our guest’s expectations.
  • Ability to accept criticism and opportunities gracefully and humbly for professional growth.
  • Ability to stay positive, focused, and constructive when faced with setbacks, challenges, and while working in an ever-changing mountain environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Must have excellent communication and guest service skills.
  • Able to ski/snowboard at an intermediate level in terrain with variable conditions.
  • Experience working with children, preferred.
  • Able to work in variable weather.
  • Ability to ski / snowboard while demonstrating maneuvers to students throughout the duration of a lesson for up to 6 hours per day, required.
  • PSIA Level 1, or foreign equivalent, preferred.
  • Uncertified of inexperienced positions available; We offer a robust New Instructor Training Program.
  • Able to work weekends and holidays, required.

This role typically pays between $18.00 and $26.00 per hour. Actual pay will be dependent on the level of certification. Full Time, Part Time / Experienced and Inexperienced positions available.

Commitment levels for this role are broken down into lesson days: Part time (18 days), Part time (32 days), and Full Time (100 days).

  • Physical demands:Ability to demonstrate skiing or snowboarding techniques, lift and carry equipment up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, walk in various snow conditions, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Work Environment: This role occasionally involves extended hours and weekends to accommodate peak business periods. Operating within a dynamic, guest-centric setting, you will interact frequently with staff, guests, and stakeholders. Your work spans both indoor and outdoor environments, encompassing a range of mountain weather conditions.
