Assistant Mountain General Manager

The Assistant Mountain General Manager is responsible for fostering the staff and guest-focused culture of Alyeska Resort’s Mountain Operations to accomplish exceptional guest service, employee engagement and financial performance goals.

Through collaboration with the Mountain General Manager and Resort Leadership Team, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the resort to manage and establish short and long-range goals, strategic and tactical plans, execute on operating plans, and ensure the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented to support the staff and culture of Alyeska Resort. This position is responsible for managing the revenue operations of the mountain, including Snowsports School, Rental Department, Ticket & Guest Services, and oversight of all mountain operations in the absence of the Mountain General Manager.

The successful candidate must possess strong and proven strategic leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills along with understanding the mechanical operations of the resort’s winter and summer operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to develop a comprehensive and robust growth strategy for Alyeska resort.
  • Evaluate and establish operating plans supporting the long-term plan of the resort, introducing new programs/strategies, where appropriate, to fuel growth, drive operational efficiency and/or ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the company by way of systems that will improve the resort's overall operation and effectiveness.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on key issues ranging from the evaluation of potential product offerings for winter & summer operations.
  • Budgetary responsibilities include capturing requisite revenue through successful business development strategies and managing expenses.
  • Leadership management and development of teams
  • Lead the teams in daily tasks and projects, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of maintenance activities.
  • Assist with/have oversight on scheduling, payroll, and other administrative duties.
  • Build collaborative relationships, both internally and externally, that support the delivery of organizational KPIs.
  • Execute business plans and budgets supporting the overall market positioning and financial goals of the organization.
  • Adjust daily, weekly, and monthly financial outcomes to optimize revenues and margins.
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables are executed with minimal follow-up required in terms of timeliness, scope, and quality.
  • Assist in producing accurate forecasting and budgeting, conducting financial reviews, tracking expenses, and managing other fiscal activities.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce safety standards in accordance with company policies and procedures as well as State & Federal laws.
  • Foster a positive and energetic culture that recognizes and rewards efforts to maximize employee engagement and guest service.
  • Create, participate in, and maintain strong relationships in the local community, the industry and beyond.
  • Provide leadership and participation in the development and evaluation of the overall resort's strategic and operational plans.
  • Champion of progression and change.
  • Technological aptitude and enthusiasm for leveraging technology to achieve business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Essential skills and experience: 

  • An experienced leader with extensive ski/hospitality industry experience and proven success in P&L management in a senior leadership role at the resort level.
  • A demonstrated track record of effective execution, including revenue growth and profit enhancement through efficient and streamlined operations.
  • Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, with a strong mountain operational focus.
  • Success at building relationships and collaborating cross-functionally across the resort.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to drive performance across multiple concepts through the creation of frameworks, process, and best practice sharing.
  • Proven track record of building and leading high performing teams.
  • Capacity to communicate effectively in writing and verbally across all levels of the organization and across multiple aspects of the community and industry.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple complex tasks in parallel.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to influence key partners from global, corporate, segment and market roles.
  • Working knowledge of computers including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access), RTP, Aspenware and Flaik.
  • Bachelor’s and advanced Degrees preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience in the ski industry, preferably in resorts that operate with over 400,000 skier visits seasonally.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated success leading complex, multiple resort/business operations with varying lines of business.

Base salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year
