Snow Cat Operator

Service is the foundation of everything we stand for at Alyeska Resort and our Slope Grooming team is no exception. Alyeska Resort is in search of experienced Snow Cat Operators to run our advanced fleet of snowcats to create an adventure of a lifetime for our guests. Our Snow Cat Operators are safety minded individuals responsible for using their technical skills to maintain the quality and appearance of our snow surface and ski slopes. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Understand the use, operation, and maintenance of heavy equipment used for snow/slope grooming. 
  • Operate snow/slope grooming equipment, such as a snowcat, to maintain the appearance and quality of the resorts ski slopes and trails to the highest level possible. 
  • Maintain a general knowledge of the mountain and adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Perform basic routine inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime. 
  • Communicate clearly and effectively via 2-way radio. 
  • Communicate advanced mechanical problems or maintenance needs with shop mechanics daily.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments to provide direction, support and maintain good working relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 2 years of snow grooming experience required
  • Mechanical or equipment background and experience with diesel engine, hydraulic machines - preferred
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time while operating a snowcat in adverse weather conditions as well as climb on and off frequently
  • Familiar with winch operations 
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions 
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to work in small groups as well as independently
  • Knowledge in 2-way radio use and various codes 
  • Able to work weekend, holidays and night shifts. December - April

Compensation: Wages starting at $18/hour. Commensurate with experience.

  • Physical demands: Physically able to navigate to tram stations. Ability to lift, carry, and ski with minimum load of 75 pounds. Essential visual skills encompass close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
