Alyeska Ski Patrol's primary responsibility is to provide and promote a safe environment for our guests and employees as well as to provide an exceptional guest experience. Ski Patrol is responsible for executing essential guest service functions such as responding to medical emergencies on the mountain, transporting injured guests off the mountain and general hill safety.

Ski Patrol is also responsible for enforcing safe skiing and riding practices and enforcement of the Skier's and Rider's Responsibility Code. Special circumstances include chairlift and tram evacuation, avalanche control work, and explosives handling. Other duties can be assigned as needed. Ski patrol is a highly visible role on the mountain with a great deal of guest interaction.

Position Responsibilities

  • Enforce safe skiing/riding practices as outlined in the State of Alaska Ski Safety Act
  • Enforcement of the Skier Responsibility Code and Resort Policies
  • Supervise and promote guest safety on varied terrain with varying winter weather conditions
  • Assist injured or ill guests on the mountain and administering first aid
  • Transporting injured guests off the mountain
  • Maintain trails, including hazard identification and setting up closures, safety materials, and other impacts from the resort environment
  • Transporting supplies and heavy equipment to areas of need
  • Performing sweep and closing procedures at the end of the day to ensure that all guests are safely off the mountain
  • Chairlift and guest evacuation
  • Operating snowmobiles to various areas of the mountain, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Other Responsibilities Specific to Alyeska Resort:​​​​​​​
    • Ability to participate in Avalanche Mitigation efforts and Lift evacuation.
    • Demonstrate basic avalanche rescue skills.
    • Ability to transport injured guest on both on and off-piste terrain in toboggan both skiing in handles and using tail-rope.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ski Patrol experience preferred, but not required
  • Current Outdoor Emergency Care, EMT certification or higher
  • Must have the ability to lift, carry and ski with a minimum load of 75lbs
  • Must have the ability to stand outside in changing winter conditions for extended periods of time
  • Ability to ski at an expert level on all terrain, in all weather conditions
  • Monitoring and promoting guest safety
  • Provide exceptional guest service
  • Assisting injured guests on the mountain and administering first aid
  • Transporting injured guests off the mountain using a toboggan
  • Performing sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests are safely off the mountain
  • Maintaining trails, identifying and mitigating hazards
  • Transporting and setting up mountain safety equipment
  • Transporting supplies and heavy equipment to areas of need on skis
  • Participation in continued professional development training
  • Avalanche control work including safely transporting and placing explosives on the mountain and stabilizing snowpack on skis
  • Driving snowmobiles to various areas of the mountain as needed
  • Willing to participate in accident investigations throughout the season

  • Physical demands: Ability to demonstrate skiing or snowboarding techniques, lift and carry equipment up to 75 pounds, bend, stoop, walk in various snow conditions, and stand for extended periods of time.
