Groomer

The groomer creates and maintains a consistent quality of skiing experience for Alyeska Resort Guest through the operation of Trail Grooming Equipment. Wages start at $18/hour

 

THIS JOB IS LOCATED IN GIRDWOOD, ALASKA. 

Main Duties:

  • Groom assigned runs and trails (green to moderate blue runs and roads)
  • Assist with snowmaking duties when required.
  • Assist junior groomers with standard operating procedures and protocol.
  • Follow all mountain safety, operating, and maintenance procedures and policies
  • To gain familiarity with, and follow all applicable Standard Operating Guidelines; including pre-start check lists, equipment operation, fueling, shut down procedures and documentation
  • Understand and work towards departmental and corporate goals & objectives
  • Attend daily crew briefings; paying close attention to safety concerns, details, and instructions
  • To identify and contain fuel and oil leaks immediately in accordance with the company EMS policies and Spill Response Plan
  • Fleet grooming with an experienced operator during first season.
  • Undertake tasks other than snow cat operation such as track maintenance, equipment maintenance and cleaning, etc.
  • Complete required documents and forms neatly and accurately every day
  • Communicate any problems or issues immediately to your supervisor so that they can be resolved quickly
  • Work closely with Grooming and VM Supervisors to keep up on preventative and required maintenance issues.
  • Provide superior service to our customers (internal and external) by following the Resort Etiquette Guidelines.
  • Inspect equipment at the start and finish of each shift to ensure it is in proper working order.
  • Groom ski trails on assigned "hill". Assist with normal grooming operations, including monitoring of snow quality and quantity.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance tasks. Check fluid levels, bolts, belts, crossbars, track tension, etc.
  • Assist with minor equipment repairs.
  • Prepare daily driver's logs and/or reports on grooming activities.
  • Completely and accurately filling out drivers logs.
  • Change equipment as necessary during the shift.
  • Coordinate grooming activities on hill with other departments (snowmaking, lifts, ski patrol, etc.) as necessary.
  • Will communicate closely with senior groomers on all grooming matters and safety issues.

Skills/Requirements:

  • Ability to accommodate an extremely flexible work schedule (Grooming begins when temperatures drop below freezing.  Consequently you may be called in at all hours, whether or not it is your regularly scheduled shift.)
  • Long work shifts (12hrs)
  • Must be reliable, and dependably accessed by a telephone call
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Prior experience preferred (required for Snowmaker II or above)
  • Good customer service skills, verbal/written communication skills
  • Manual dexterity/grasp of hand to use all tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to lift/carry min. 75 lbs.
  • Exposure to cold/heat on regular basis; ability to work in inclement weather.
  • Duties may require standing and walking for extended period of time with some bending, crawling, twisting and skiing or snowboarding with weight.

    • Ability to lift/carry and ski with minimum load of 75 pounds

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and inclement weather conditions.
