Mountain Learning Center (MLC) Assistant Director

THIS JOB IS LOCATED IN GIRDWOOD, ALASKA. 

Main Duties:

  • The MLC Assistant Director will assist the MLC Director in being responsible for all aspects of the MLC including daily operational activities, managing & motivating all employees, scheduling instructors, all MLC Ski, Snowboard & Nordic programs, and utilizing the RTP system. Also ensuring that Wades Way Magic carpet is operational on a daily basis.
  • The MLC Assistant Director will assist the Director in determining the direction the MLC will take by implementing new programs and resort services and helping to continue the growth and development of the MLC.
  • The MLC Assistant Director will continually communicate with the Ski and Snowboard Training Directors, to better prepare Instructors so they can teach an excellent lesson and exceed guest expectations. To do this the Supervisors must also continue to obtain education to provide the most up to date teaching techniques and methods.
  • The MLC Assistant Director will assist the Director in completing seasonal reviews for all MLC employees.
  • Maintain good relations and working knowledge concerning local school districts, marketed special events and industry wide Snow Sports School
  • Assist and work with the MLC Desk on a day to day basis in regards to reservations and student/instructor numbers.
  • Assist the Director with liaising and problem solving with guests to help meet their needs.
  • The MLC Assistant Director will perform the tasks of the Director when the Director is away.
  • Other tasks as directed

Skills/Requirements:

  • Must have extensive and advanced knowledge of the Snow Sports Industry, specifically pertaining to Snow Sports School, Ticket Office/Snow Sports School Reservations, Host, Events, and Rental/Repair programs and operations.
  • At least 3 years full time experience working in a Snow Sports School.
  • Must have PSIA/AASI Level 2 Certification, or equivalent (Level 3 is preferred).
  • High School Diploma Required.
  • Must have previous experience in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • Working knowledge of RTP.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • Must maintain a neat, clean and well groomed appearance and present a good image.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to solve problems with customers quickly and efficiently.
  • Keep employees informed of upcoming groups and events.
  • Ability to apply basic supervisory skills to plan, and direct employees as necessary.
  • Able to coordinate and cooperate with other departments.

Physical demands and work environment:  The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: Must be physically able to safely navigate all in-bounds areas in all weather and snow conditions.  You will be required to ski/snowboard and talk for extended periods of time.  Must be able to perform continuously for an 8+ hour shift.  Lifting heavy objects (no more than 50 pounds), bending, twisting and shoveling may be required.  You will be required to stand and walk safely on uneven terrain.  Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the noise in this work environment is usually moderate.  Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside and wet floors in doors.  Outside temperatures can be extremely cold and wet.
