Rental Clerk

As a Rental Clerk at Alyeska Resort, your role is to create a welcoming and seamless experience for our guests as they prepare for a day on the slopes. You'll be assisting guests in selecting the right boots, skis, or snowboards tailored to their specific needs based on factors like height, weight, and skill level. In addition to ensuring that the paperwork is complete, you'll handle equipment with care when it's returned and ensure that cash transactions are managed accurately. If you have a passion for skiing and snowboarding, paired with excellent customer service skills, we'd love to have you on our team.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Greet guests with a smile and a professional demeanor as they arrive.
  • Help guests choose the right-sized boots, skis, and snowboards based on height, weight, and skill level. Calculate binding tensions and pole lengths to ensure a comfortable fit.
  • Present rental agreements, address guest questions, and ensure the completion of all necessary documents.
  • Handle returned equipment with care, checking for any damage or issues.
  • Accurately count cash and prepare it for bank deposits.
  • Operate our point of sale system, make change, and reconcile cash/credit at the close of your shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or one to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Previous sales experience is a plus, as is experience handling cash and operating a cash register.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions, as well as present information effectively to customers, clients, and fellow employees.
  • Proficiency in basic math, from addition and subtraction to calculating discounts, interest, proportions, and more.
  • Capable of defining problems, collecting data, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Comfortable interpreting technical instructions in both mathematical and diagram form, dealing with abstract and concrete variables.
  • A working knowledge of ski and/or snowboard equipment and accessories.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, as well as effective interpersonal skills.
  • Stellar customer service skills and the ability to assist guests of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  • Physical demands: Ability to lift up-to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, walk, push or pull heavy equipment and stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Work Environment: The noise in this work environment is usually moderate. Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside, and wet floors indoors. This role occasionally involves extended hours, nights, and weekends to accommodate peak business periods. Operating within a dynamic, fast-paced guest-centric setting, you will maintain a high level of interaction with staff, guests, and stakeholders.
