Position summary:       Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and failure analysis on all Alyeska Resort vehicles, snow cats and heavy equipment.  Repairs and maintains the fleet of Alyeska Resort vehicles and equipment in accordance with the Resort’s vehicle maintenance guidelines and standards.  Provide Alyeska Resort with maximum safe vehicle availability.

Position responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative maintenance and resulting repairs
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, design, modify and complete failure analysis on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains the fleet of Alyeska Resort vehicles and equipment in accordance with the Resort’s vehicle maintenance guidelines and standards.
  • Major welding and fabrication projects.
  • Assist in training resort staff in the safe operation of equipment and equipment operation protocols
  • Assist in the day to day operation of the shop and assist in supervising staff as needed.
  • Assist in ordering parts as requested.
  • Ensure regular maintenance & repair of all resort vehicles, grooming equipment, and heavy equipment is performed on a timely basis.
  • Assist in keeping vehicles and maintenance facility clean and organized at all times.
  • Perform or assist in with performing repairs on other resort equipment such as: 4-wheelers, snowmachines, snow blowers, chainsaws, sanding units, and lawn mowers.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that Resort equipment and vehicles are repaired and maintained to operate in a safe and functional manner.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and weekly safety meetings.
  • Complete accurately on a daily basis work orders on equipment being maintained or repaired.
  • Management of specific assigned shop areas
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the shop area in order to provide a safe work environment.
  • Must work well with all other resort departments. Must be respectful of all guests and employees of Alyeska Resort.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Drivers License
  • Minimum five years of experience in the Vehicle Maintenance field or three to six years with a certificate of completion from an automotive /diesel Technology School with a minimum of 1000 clock hours
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, electrical over hydraulics, gas & diesel engine systems, computerized engine control systems, drive train, chassis, body repair, basic welding, fuel systems, air systems and schematic drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic system schematics
  • Ability to consult manuals, trade publications, vendors, staff schools and training programs to keep updated on current shop practices and new maintenance technologies to improve the efficiency and production of the Vehicle Maintenance Department
  • Ability to operate all vehicles in the fleet to evaluate performance of equipment and repairs
  • Ability to run the shop in the absence of the Supervisor or Foreman
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions

Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside, and wet floors indoors.
