Vehicle Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY The Vehicle Maintenance Manager responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training the vehicle maintenance staff; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems with the Vehicle Maintenance department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and perform regular maintenance & repair of all resort vehicles, grooming equipment, and heavy equipment. Ensure that all preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed on a timely basis. Assist in keeping vehicles and maintenance facility clean and organized and stocked at all times.  Ensure that the Vehicle Maintenance facility is adequately staffed to facilitate maintenance and repairs of resort vehicles and equipment and maintenance is carried out in a safe and timely manner.
  • Create a safe and efficient working environment
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance and repairs performed. Train staff on record keeping of maintenance logs.
  • Assist in the training of resort staff in the proper operation of assigned vehicles.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of repair parts for resort vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance policies and procedures are being followed by all employees.
  • Schedule routine maintenance (lubrication, oil, filter changes, safety checks) based upon vehicle mileage on all resort vehicles.
  • Ensure Ultipro for the vehicle maintenance department is updated on a daily basis.
  • Schedule and assist with performing repairs on other resort equipment such as: 4-wheelers, snowmachines, snow blowers, chainsaws, sanding units, and lawn mowers.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that resort equipment and vehicles are repaired and maintained to operate in a safe and functional manner.
  • Will hold weekly staff meetings and safety meetings and keep a regular record of these meetings.
  • Order fuel and maintain fueling station.
  • Will work within budget constraints by keeping track of expenses and labor in relation to the budget.
  • Order parts in a timely fashion with proper approvals in place.
  • Will communicate closely with the Ski Area GM and Mountain Operations Managers on all vehicle maintenance matters and safety issues.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must have a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn quickly. Proficient repair, diagnostic, metal fabrication, gas and electric welding skills preferred. Must have a broad knowledge of all aspects of vehicle mechanics with special emphasis on diesel engines, DC Electronics, hydraulics, and hydrostatic drive systems. Must be able to work independently, under pressure, be dependable and able to work flexible hours. Must possess strong communication skills and be respectful of other employees at all times and be able to work with all other resort departments as needed.

  • Able to operate all Resort equipment
  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • DOT/Medical Examiners Certification
  • Previous experience leading a Vehicle Maintenance facility.

Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.

  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Physical terrain in the work environment can be uneven with poor traction; there is ice and snow outside, and wet floors indoors.
