Housekeeping Supervisor

Position summary:  Responsible for providing excellent services to guests and supports housekeeping department by providing clerical services and responsible for all office inquiries.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, schedule, and train Housekeeping staff emphasizing guest relations skills.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, departmental policies and liaison with other managers as appropriate.
  • Respond to guest request, inquiries and complaints with accurate information and with a positive attitude to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Supervise the appropriate selection of rooms, based on guest needs, and instructions as per the Director of Housekeeping.
  • Maintain property inventory of housekeeping supplies.
  • Conducts property inspections at the start of each shift, beginning with main lobby, guest corridors and elevator landings, and public space.
  • Provide constant and consistent communications with other Housekeeping staff and other departments as needed.
  • Ability to work well under pressure patiently and tactfully and diplomacy to effectively resolve guest complaints.
  • Answer/dispatch calls as received within the Housekeeping office.
  • Delegate requests, either from guests or other employees.
  • Contact other departments directly for urgent repairs.
  • Prepare all daily work assignment sheets for room attendants.
  • Coordinates and monitors Room Attendants, Public Area and Inspectress.
  • Updates Inspectress and Room Attendants assignment sheets.
  • May require assistance with assigning and distributing uniforms to employees.
  • Perform daily key and cell phone control and inventory of all keys and cell phones signed to the Housekeeping department upon arrival and departure of shifts.
  • Assist in other area of the department as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience:  High School graduate or equivalent.  Previous supervisory experience required.  Previous hospitality management experience preferred.  Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.  Knowledge of non-English languages helpful.  Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including speaking effectively to large groups.  Prior experience in Resort/hotel operations preferred. Must be PC proficient (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, Opera and Rex, etc.). Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents, stain removal, and operation of various types of cleaning equipment, such as shampooers.  Experience using chemical cleaning agents effectively and safely. Able to multi-task

Language Skills   Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  Ability to speak other languages in addition to English helpful.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to follow instruction in detail-oriented manner.  Ability to work well under pressure while tactfully and effectively resolving guest complaints.

Mathematical Skills   Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.
