The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing the engineering and maintenance team to ensure the optimal functioning and sustainability of the organization's facilities. This role encompasses team leadership, preventative maintenance, budget management, compliance, and driving sustainability initiatives. The Director of Engineering will also collaborate with various stakeholders to support the organization's strategic objectives and operational efficiency.
Position Responsibilities
Direct the facilities and maintenance teams, assigning daily tasks and projects, and ensure timely and high-quality completion of all maintenance activities.
Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training of staff, including performance reviews, scheduling, payroll, and other administrative duties.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
Implement and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, coordinating with the Director of Housekeeping and Director of Rooms.
Oversee and track the preventative maintenance program, ensuring quarterly target values are met.
Maintain updated records of all equipment and ensure thorough documentation.
Drive continuous improvement of processes, quality, and cost to maintain profitability and competitiveness.
Develop standards and procedures to ensure quality company standards are met and maintained.
Identify and prioritize organizational objectives, continuously improving through evaluation and problem-solving teams.
Develop and manage budgets for infrastructure projects and sustainability initiatives.
Works with stakeholders to develop oversee the execution the strategic 5 year capital asset planning.
Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and report on financial performance to senior management.
Produce accurate forecasting and budgeting, conduct financial reviews, track expenses, and manage other fiscal activities.
Execute business plans and budgets to support the overall market positioning and financial goals of the organization.
Review financial outcomes daily, weekly, and monthly; adjust to optimize revenues and margins.
Stay informed and educated on Safety and OH&S requirements to ensure compliance.
Ensure the facilities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and obtain necessary permits and certifications.
Promote and enforce a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with applicable legislation and company policies and procedures.
Implement best practices for resource conservation, renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, and executive leadership, to align infrastructure and sustainability efforts with broader business objectives.
Engage with external stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to build partnerships and support sustainable development efforts.
Negotiate and monitor operational maintenance contracts as required.
Ensure the physical product is maintained by utilizing highly qualified and quality-oriented suppliers.
Maintain an appropriate supply of materials and equipment to meet daily operating and maintenance requirements.
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area, including inventory management, requisition, trash removal, and cleanup.
Take a "hands-on" and "lead by example" approach with daily engineering duties and projects as required.
Ensure assigned deliverables are executed in a manner that requires little or no follow-up; both in terms of timeliness, scope, and quality.
Be available to report to the hotel or staff housing in the event of an emergency, such as fires, equipment failures, floods, avalanches, or other disasters.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in infrastructure planning, project management, and sustainability leadership, preferably in the hospitality or resort industry.
Strong understanding of environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of professionals.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
Certification in sustainability (e.g., LEED, Green Globes) and project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
Essential Skills and Experience
Experience: 4 -7 years in a progressively senior role with strong knowledge of engineering and maintenance processes.
Education: Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset. Must possess a 4th – 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate for a minimum of 3 years.
Technical Skills: Experience in preventative maintenance, energy management, fire safety, and health and safety. Excellent knowledge of public construction and building systems, permits, licensing, and codes related to public building and fire safety.
Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products related to the department.
Industry Knowledge: Ability to stay informed on state-of-the-art developments affecting the safe and effective operation of the building facility.
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Teamwork: Recognized team player and self-starter with strong organizational skills.
Training and Development: Ability to train, coach, and develop associates in an entrepreneurial and progressive environment.
Technical Proficiency: Computer knowledge required.

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 USD
